Dr. Biron retired in 2017. She taught a variety of interdisciplinary language, culture, and literature courses as well as courses in second language acquisition, applied linguistics, and the theory and practice of teaching foreign languages. Dr. Biron served Chairperson from 2009-2011; in that capacity, she replaced the paper language placement test with an online one, secured funding for 11 new computers for the Language Lab, created our assessment program, and served as the department’s liaison to the Master of Arts in Teaching program. Dr. Biron also created Arts Night, an event that showcases poetry recitations, instrumental and vocal performances, and dance, all by students in UMD’s different language programs.

She has developed a summer study abroad course in Spain, an intensive Spanish language program, and online Spanish language classes, as well as courses in Caribbean music and literature, Latin American Theatre, and Latina Literature. She has served as Co-Director of Faculty Development for the Center for Teaching and Learning and facilitated multiple graduate action research projects for the UMD Master of Arts in Teaching Program.
