Student Organizations

Charlton's student organizations provide opportunities for students to serve in leadership positions and to learn more about their fields of study.

Each organization is guided by a faculty advisor and is supported by targeted donations, fund-raising activities, and allocations from the Student Senate. Meetings are open to all students. Meeting announcements are posted near business classrooms and faculty offices. Guest speakers from local business provide real-world context to materials learned in the classroom.

ASCM

The ASCM (Association for Supply Chain Management) Student Club, founded in 2012 (formerly known as the APICS Student Club), facilitates the broader education of students interested in supply chain management by connecting them with professionals in the field, linking them to professional development opportunities, and extending the opportunity to engage in a regional and potentially national supply chain management case competition. Previous UMass Dartmouth graduate students have placed in the regional case competition, and all have gained valuable contacts from participating in the presentations.

Beta Alpha Psi 

Beta Alpha Psi is an international honor society for accounting, finance, and information systems students attending universities accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) or the European Quality Improvement System.

In the academic year 2021-2022, UMassD’s Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, Mu Phi, achieved superior status for the third time in last four years. Superior status, the highest honor a chapter can attain, was achieved due to the hard work and dedication of the chapter’s members and the following officers: Sean Fleming (co-President), Judy Nguyen (co-President), Gabriella Rivas-Guardado (Vice President), Widline Thomas (Reporter) and Iqra Mir (Secretary). The Mu Phi chapter thanks Dean John Williams, Professor Wu, Lori Raspotnik, and Chapter Advisor Professor Jacobsen for the guidance and support they have provided.

In the past several years, Mu Phi has hosted dozens of events allowing members as well as non-member CCB students to network with professionals, develop skills and gain knowledge to better prepare themselves for the careers after graduation. Since 2017, over 500 students have attended Mu Phi events.

Beta Gamma Sigma 

The international honor society serving business programs accredited by AACSB International. Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest recognition a business student can receive in an AACSB-accredited program.

Big Data Club

The mission of the Big Data Club, founded in April 2017, is to provide a common meeting space for individuals interested in analyzing data and dealing with data in general. Members meet to discuss data, share ideas and projects, ask for help, and bounce ideas off each other. UMassD Big Data Club members won "Best data visualization" for the fourth consecutive year & claimed the "Best Insight" category during the 2022 virtual DataFest.

Charlton Graduate Student Association

The mission of the MBA Association is to enrich the MBA student experience by providing leadership that empowers and inspires, advocacy on behalf of student interest and coordination of all student run activities. The MBA Association adds value to the education of Charlton College of Business students through extracurricular community, corporate, organizational, and student activities. It serves as a liaison between MBA students and administration as well as a forum for students to voice concerns about the MBA program.

In so doing, the MBA Association is charged with, but not limited to:

- To be the voice of the MBA student body.
- To be the active link between MBA students, administration, faculty, and the University of Massachusetts - Dartmouth community.
- To facilitate learning, involvement, and interaction both inside and outside of class that fosters an active, open, and fun culture.
- To unite students, school, and community, optimizing their interaction to provide a world-class business education and memorable experiences

Charlton Women in Business Association

The Charlton Women in Business (CWIB) Association is a community and network of dedicated undergraduate and graduate students at the Charlton College of Business (CCB). The goal of CWIB is to foster personal and professional growth through collaborative connections, meaningful relationships, mentorship, and programming. Membership is open, and anyone can join at any time.

Meetings, which will be held at a tentative date, time, and location, will vary between mentorship, programming, and networking, and will include, but are not limited to the following topics:

  • Student Achievement within the CCB community
  • Promotion of self-care, personal identity, and good academic habits
  • Businesses and businesswomen in the news
  • Voting/Elections (if required)

Topics of discussion will be supplemented by podcasts, literature, interviews, TED talks, and news articles, among other things.

Collegiate DECA 

Founded in 2011, Collegiate DECA at UMassD is a student-driven organization that values competence, innovation, integrity, and teamwork. We prepare students for careers by integrating skills learned in the classroom into real-world experiences by getting students academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible, experienced leaders. Collegiate DECA conferences and other activities give students unique access to internships, scholarships, competition, and professional networking. Students and the organization have already earned international accolades, including first place at ICDC. Visit UMassD DECA on Facebook. 

Investment Club

Students learn how to apply their knowledge and to enhance their resume through participation and leadership opportunities.  The investment club meets once every week in small groups (sector teams) where students work to analyze companies and sectors in search of good investments. We operate as an extension of the course FIN 301, which controls the Student Managed Fund (a charitable fund that is currently valued at over $140,000). 

The club tries to have 2-3 big public meetings every semester. So if you're too busy to commit to the weekly schedule, we invite you to come to our larger events.
