March 19, 2004 Education Compact Hosts Information Technology Expo For Area Students DARTMOUTH, MA. The SouthCoast Education Compact today hosted the region's first Information Technology Expo at the campus of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. The IT Expo was designed to be a learning activity to evaluate a student's development of essential skills that are congruent with sound education practices and enhance education purposes. It also provided a competitive opportunity to highlight the importance of technology skills to area high school students as well as emphasizing their role as essential skills for education and career development.

The program was hosted by television personality Pat Summerall and was aired initially on the Discovery Channel on Tuesday morning, December 2, 2003.
March 8, 2004 Janine Wong: Fragments Featured At University Of Richmond Marsh Art Gallery DARTMOUTH, MA. - The artistic creations of Associate Professor Janine Wong of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouths College of Visual & Performing Arts will be featured in a major exhibition at the Marsh Art Gallery on the campus of the University of Richmond. The exhibition entitled Janine Wong: Fragments will continue through July 24 and presents four large-scale, multi-panel contemporary paintings created as a site-specific project for the University of Richmond Museum.

March 5, 2004 UMASS DARTMOUTH AWARDED teacher training Grant Dartmouth, MAAn interdisciplinary team of educators at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth have been awarded a $40,000 professional development grant to work with middle school teachers in New Bedford. The Massachusetts Board of Higher Education funded the project entitled Literacy and Content Required Here with resources earmarked to improve teacher quality under the federal No Child Left Behind legislation.

February 27, 2004 University Announces Policy Studies Program DARTMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS -- After years of effort by Chancellor Jean F. MacCormack and faculty members supportive of the idea, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth announced today that its Center for Policy Analysis, and the Policy Studies faculty have secured final approval to offer an undergraduate Minor in Policy Studies. The University Provost, Dr. Louis Esposito made the announced at a press conference in the University library. This is the first major academic initiative in the social sciences at UMass Dartmouth in 30 years.
