CEN 459: Dynamics of Stratified Flows
Prerequisite: CEN 303 & CEN 325
Physical processes governing stratified flows, including estuarine, reservoir, and atmospheric flows. Topics include terminology and classification, turbulence/mixing, secondary (cross-channel) flows, density and momentum balances, wind forcing, and internal response, velocity-induced straining, hydraulic control and the establishment of fronts, engineered discharges and plumes, and other stratified flow phenomena.
