CHM 528: Drug Design and Modeling

Prerequisite: One year of Organic Chemistry (CHM 251 and 252) and one semester of Biochemistry (CHM 411) required. One year of Physical Chemistry (CHM 315 and 316) recommended.

An overview of medicinal chemistry with emphasis on the functioning of drugs to inform rational design of improved therapeutic agents. Pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic phases of drug action are introduced along with drug metabolism. Molecular structure and computational modeling is used to develop quantitative structure-activity relationships, to identify drug binding interactions, and to study how structure modifications affect drug response.
