MUS 223: Creative Sound Arts
Prereq: MUS 171
General Education requirement: Cultural & Artistic Literacy
An introductory exploration of the fundamentals of electronic music. Historical background will cover masterpieces of the repertoire, as well as its influence on contemporary artists like Radiohead and BjÃ¶rk. Readings will challenge the student to develop a personal aesthetic about sound. Students will demonstrate mastery of techniques in Musique Concrete, Sampling, and Additive Synthesis through completion of original compositions, culminating in an end-of-semester concert. This is a studio project-based class. Platforms covered include: Peak, AudioSculpt, ProTools, and Max/MSP.
