Carol Spencer received both her B.A. and M.A. in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. She is a licensed mental health counselor and has provided clinical support within the local community.
As Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Success, Carol provides comprehensive leadership, strategic planning and oversight of student success initiatives, programs and support services including Academic Resource Center, College Now/START Program and Upward Bound Program. With 21 years of university experience, she has led many student support efforts in the area of recruitment, enrollment and retention. Her efforts have resulted to increasing 1st year retention rates within target populations.
Carol has previously served as the Director for the College Now/START Program, Interim Director for the Frederick Douglass Unity House and the Academic Advising Center. She is also the recipient of the 2003 Chancellor’s Outstanding Woman Award; 2009 Drum Major Award Recipient, and the 2012 Alumni Service Award.
