Congratulations! Your student has graduated from high school and is entering UMass Dartmouth as a young adult. Unlike high school, special education does not exist at the college level. As parents you are no longer involved in “IEP” or “504” meetings which do not take place in college.
The Center for Access and Success (CAS) meets directly with your student. CAS wants to ensure you we have your student’s best interest in mind. As a parent, you are always an important part of your student’s growth and development. The college website is a great resource for parents.
Remember your student is transitioning into adulthood. Your student is now responsible for communicating directly to the University’s faculty and staff. We will be directly communicating to your student.
“Our job as a parent is to put ourselves out of a job. We need to know that our children have the wherewithal to get up in the morning and take care of themselves.” Julie Lythcott-Haims,Dean of Students Stanford University, book – “How to Raise an Adult: Break Free of the Over Parenting Trap and Prepare your Kid for Success”
