College of Engineering Change of Major Standards

The College of Engineering has program-specific requirements for:

  • current students who are considering a transfer to an engineering major
  • students who are pursing Pre-Engineering, who have 3 semesters to meet the requirements

To be accepted into the program of your choice, you will need to complete all the requirements listed below for that program:

Bioengineering

  • Cumulative GPA: 2.500 or better
  • Completion of Calculus I and II with grades C and better
  • Completion of Chemistry I and II with grades C and better
  • If the grade in Calculus I and Chemistry I is at least B, the required "C and better" for Calculus II and Chemistry II is waived

Civil Engineering

  • Cumulative GPA: 2.500 or better
  • Completion of Calculus I and II with grades C and better
  • Completion of Chemistry I and II with grades C and better
  • If the grade in Calculus I and Chemistry I is at least B, the required "C and better" for Calculus II and Chemistry II is waived

Computer Science

  • Overall GPA of 2.300 or better
  • Completion of a course in computer programming (CIS 180 preferred) with a grade of C or better

Computer Engineering

  • Overall GPA of 2.500 or better
  • Completion of the following at UMass Dartmouth, with a GPA of 2.500 or higher:
    • Two courses from: ECE 160, ECE 256, ECE 201, ECE 260 
    • Two courses from: Calculus I, II, III and Differential Equations 
    • Physics I or II

Electrical Engineering

  • Overall GPA of 2.500 or better
  • Completion of the following at UMass Dartmouth, with a GPA of 2.500 or higher:
    • Two courses from: ECE 160, ECE 256, ECE 201, ECE 260 
    • Two courses from: Calculus I, II, III and Differential Equations 
    • Physics I or II

Mechanical Engineering

  • Overall GPA of 2.500 or better
  • Completion of Calculus I, Calculus II and Physics I with at least a grade of B-. If taken at a community college, at least a grade of B+ is required

Physics

  • Overall GPA of 2.000 or better
  • Completion of Calculus I with a grade of C or better
  • Completion of Physics I with a grade of C or better
