Abstract:
This thesis focused on create an image recognition model to identify the current state of ripeness in a crop. Bananas were selected due to their distinct visuals of enzymatic browning during their ripening process. The dataset was provided by the public online database of Bangladeshi bananas provided by Md Hasanul Ferdaus’s “BananaImageBD: A comprehensive banana image dataset for classification of banana varieties and detection of ripeness stages in Bangladesh”. The images are fed through different preprocessing techniques, the Canny edge detection algorithm, and a color detection in order to determine the percentage of enzymatic browning that is occurring on their peels. This model provides the capability of automatically detecting the ripeness bananas.
