Abstract:

Shared Environments: A Story of Beauty is a body of work that celebrates the beauty of native and invasive plants, illustrating the dense spaces these plants cohabitate on ceramic surfaces. Using technology as a tool to generate imagery, this body of work features graphic, layered designs which capture the frenetic energy present in nature. These scenes serve as windows into the wild, bridging the natural world with the domestic, interior spaces.

At the heart of these compositions is a story about beauty—an invitation for the viewer to pause, reflect, and bear witness to the imperfect yet profound beauty of the natural world. This thesis underscores the essential human need to live within and around beauty. By embracing this belief, Shared Environments encourages a deeper connection to the overlooked moments of nature’s beauty and invites viewers to reconsider the parallels to human experience such as growth, struggle, and beauty.
