Temporary Changes to Graduate Admission Requirements in Response to COVID-19

In response to the COVID‐19 pandemic, this page reflects temporary and alternative changes (if any) to requirements for admission consideration to UMass Dartmouth graduate degree and certificate programs for the Summer 2020 (where relevant) and Fall 2020 admit terms.

Only changes (if any) are reflected below; unless indicated below, all other existing application requirements remain in effect. Waiving or changing application requirements as indicated below does not equate to an admission offer; but such waivers/changes may expedite application completion. 

All certificate programs

All master’s degree programs

  • GRE and/or GMAT requirement is waived.
  • English language proficiency also may be demonstrated via Duolingo English Test.

Biology (MS, PhD)

  • Two (not three) letters of recommendation are required.
  • GRE requirement is waived for applicants with cumulative baccalaureate degree GPA ≥ 3.30. 

Biomedical Engineering & Biotechnology (MS, PhD) 

  • One (not three) letter of recommendation is required.
  • GRE requirement is waived (but strongly recommended) for applicants with cumulative baccalaureate degree GPA > 3.00.
  • English language proficiency also may be demonstrated via Duolingo English Test.

Chemistry & Biochemistry (MS, PhD) 

  • GRE requirement is waived (not required for MS anyway.)
  • English language proficiency also may be demonstrated via Duolingo English Test.

Data Science (MS) 

  • One (not three) letter of recommendation is required. 
  • GRE requirement is waived (but strongly recommended.)
  • English language proficiency also may be demonstrated via Duolingo English Test.

Portuguese (MA, PhD)

  • No changes. 

Professional Writing & Communication (certificate, MA)

  • Two (not three) letters of recommendation are required for MA degree. (None required for certificate anyway.)

Psychology (post‐master’s certificate, MA)

  • Applied Behavior Analysis MA option and post‐master’s certificate requires two (not three) letters of recommendation.
  • Research MA option requires two (not three) letters of recommendation.
  • Clinical MA option – No changes.

Public Policy (certificates, MPP)

  • No changes. 

STEM Education (PhD)

  • GRE requirement is waived.

Teaching (MAT)

  • Standardized test requirement (MTEL, GRE, GMAT) is waived.

Biomedical Engineering & Biotechnology (MS, PhD) 

  • One (not three) letter of recommendation is required.
  • GRE requirement is waived (but strongly recommended) for applicants with cumulative baccalaureate degree GPA > 3.00.
  • English language proficiency also may be demonstrated via Duolingo English Test.

Civil & Environmental Engineering (MS)

  • Two (not three) letters of recommendation are required for MS degree.
  • GRE requirement is waived (but strongly recommended).
  • English language proficiency also may be demonstrated via Duolingo English Test.

Computer Science (certificates, MS)

  • One (not three) letter of recommendation is required for MS. (None required for certificates anyway.)
  • GRE requirement is waived (but strongly recommended). (Not required for certificates anyway.)
  • English language proficiency also may be demonstrated via Duolingo English Test.

Data Science (MS)

  • One (not three) letter of recommendation is required.
  • GRE requirement is waived (but strongly recommended).
  • English language proficiency also may be demonstrated via Duolingo English Test.

Electrical & Computer Engineering (certificates, MS, PhD)

  • One (not three) letter of recommendation is required for MS or PhD. (None required for certificates anyway.)
  • GRE requirement is waived.
  • English language proficiency also may be demonstrated via Duolingo English Test.

 Engineering & Applied Science (PhD)

  • Two (not three) letters of recommendation are required.
  • GRE requirement is waived.

Mechanical Engineering (certificate, MS)

  • One (not three) letter of recommendation is required for MS degree. (None required for certificate anyway.)
  • GRE requirement is waived. (Not required for certificate anyway.)
  • English language proficiency also may be demonstrated via Duolingo English Test.

Physics (MS)

  • Two (not three) letters of recommendation are required.
  • GRE requirement is waived.

 

Nursing (MS)

  • One (not two) letters of recommendation is required.
  • English language proficiency also may be demonstrated via Duolingo English Test.

 Nursing (DNP)

  • No changes.

Nursing (PhD)

  • No changes.

 

All certificate programs

  • No changes.

Art Education (MAE)

  • No changes.

Fine Arts (MFA)

  • No changes. 

Marine Science & Technology (MS, PSM, PhD)

  • Two (not three) letters of recommendation are required.
  • GRE requirement is waived. (Not required for PSM anyway.)
