All students admitted to doctoral programs will be considered for First Year Doctoral Fellowships.
If there is an applicant that the program feels is particularly desirable, the Graduate Program Director (GPD) may nominate a potential doctoral fellow (multiple nominations are allowed).
The GPD should send an email to the Associate Provost for Graduate Studies identifying the student whom he/she wants to be particularly considered for fellowship funding and indicating what it is about the applicant that makes him/her a particularly compelling candidate.
First Year Doctoral Fellows receive one year of support that includes a stipend of $16,000 plus a full tuition and Curriculum Support Fee waiver. Like the Distinguished Doctoral Fellowships, these will be awarded only to strong applicants who enroll full-time, maintain a 3.5 GPA, and make satisfactory progress. The goal is for the fellows to have one year to focus on course work while they seek out a research advisor who can support their remaining studies.
