How to apply

Step 1: Verify your expected graduation term in COIN

Log into your COIN Student Center > My Advising Center > Academic Summary to confirm your Expected Graduation semester is correct.  If incorrect, send email to lec@umassd.edu with your name, student ID, and expected graduation term so that we can update it accordingly in COIN.

Step 2: Complete graduation exit survey

Complete the mandatory graduation exit survey at: https://webapps.umassd.edu/graduation/

You must allow at least 30 minutes for the exit survey results to be sent to UMassD before proceeding to step 3 to apply for graduation.

Step 3: Apply for graduation in COIN

Log into your COIN Student Center:

  • Select My Academics > Graduation > Apply for Graduation.
  • Select Apply for Graduation.
  • Select the term of your expected graduation from the drop down menu.
  • Select continue.
  • Submit application.

If you are eligible to apply, you will receive a message that you have successfully applied for graduation. If you are not eligible to apply, the link may not be visible and/or you will receive a message with further information or instruction.

After you apply

The Registrar’s Office forwards applicant names to the appropriate academic department for careful review and certification that all requirements have been met.

Once all final grades have been posted, UMass Law will send your degree certification to the Registrar’s Office. The Registrar’s Office will post the degree on your transcript.

Due to the small window of time between the end of final exams and the Commencement Ceremony, diplomas are not handed out at Commencement. Diploma mailings begin 6 weeks after the degree conferral date for those students whose degrees have been awarded.

Important Note: Diplomas will not be released if your degree has not been certified and posted to your transcript. You should check your transcript through COIN to verify your degree has been awarded. In addition, all financial holds must be resolved before a diploma and/or official transcript can be released by the University.
