Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, Washington, DC, 1966 Project Not Built

The Roosevelt Memorial Commission held a number of design competitions over a period of serveral decades to create a suitable memorial honoring the President. In the mid 1960s, Rudolph entered one of these ill-fated competitions and was one of 5 finalists considered to receive the commission. Marcel Breuer's winning effort was also eventually rejected. It wasn't until 1997 that the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, designed by Lawrence Halprin, was dedicated in Washington, DC.
