The UMass Dartmouth Health Office is sponsoring a series of free workshops designed to encourage healthy eating, develop realistic body image and raise awareness about the physical effects of eating disorders. The workshops will run in the Library Browsing Area from 6-7 p.m. with parking available in lot 13.
At the first session on Tuesday, February 26, entitled;Eating Disorders: A Personal Perspective; a recovered individual will share her struggle with an eating disorder. Presentation topics will include the effects of the media, how to help a friend with an eating disorder, and positive body image.
On Wednesday, February 27, the workshop focuses on ;How to Help a Friend or Loved One with an Eating Disorder; The forum’s leader will describe the signs and symptoms of eating disorders. Discussion will follow on what to do and what not to do as a friend or loved one of someone struggling with an eating disorder.
An information table for the public will be set up in the Campus Center’s commuter cafeteria on Wednesday, February 27, and Friday, March 1, from 9 a.m. until 12 Noon. Visitors will have the opportunity to pick up free brochures and speak with committee members.
