Basketball great Bill Walton to speak at UMass Dartmouth scholarship benefit on May 12
Basketball legend Bill Walton will be the featured speaker at the annual Excellence in Marketing Awards Dinner on May 12, 2003, sponsored by the Slade's Ferry Bank Center for Business Research of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Boston Globe sportswriter Bob Ryan will introduce Walton.
Walton played on thel977 Portland Trailblazers and the 1986 Boston Celtics NBA championship teams. He played with the Trailblazers 1974-1979, the San Diego Clippers 1979-1984, the relocated Los Angeles Clippers in 1985, and The Boston Celtics 1985-1988. Walton is also the second of only four players in the history of the NBA to lead the league in both blocked shots and rebounding in the same season. He remains active in basketball through clinics, camps, coaching, and television commentary
The event, which raises money for scholarships and business research, will be held at the Venus de Milo in Swansea.Tickets are on sale at $50.00 each for the dinner and VIP reception, as well as for tables of ten for $500. Event sponsors at $1,500 and $2,500 receive two or three tables, VIP tickets, and an array of autographed memorabilia from Walton's career—basketballs, Celtics jerseys, photos, and books.
