UMass Dartmouth Electrical and Computer Engineering Assistant Professor Lance Fiondella has been appointed a 2016 Summer Fellow in the Office of Naval Research (ONR) Summer Faculty Research Program at the Naval Air Warfare Center’s Aircraft Division. During the 10-week on-site program, Dr. Fiondella will help assess the reliability of software that goes into various aircraft and weapons systems, including unmanned aircrafts, rocket launchers, and rotorcrafts.
Professor Fiondella will perform his work at the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) headquartered in Patuxent River, Maryland. NAVAIR’s mission is to provide full life-cycle support of naval aviation aircraft, weapons and systems. This support includes research, design, development and systems engineering; acquisition; test and evaluation; training facilities and equipment; repair and modification; and in-service engineering and logistics support.
Dr. Fiondella joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2013. Prior to joining UMass Dartmouth, he was a postdoctoral fellow in the School of Mathematical and Geospatial Sciences at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) in Australia. He conducts research in the areas of software and system reliability and risk. He has published more than 80 peer reviewed journal and conference papers on these topics. His research is supported by the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), National Science Foundation (NSF), Army Research Laboratory (ARL), and NAVAIR.
