Course Description: This course delves into various models and methodologies for integrating music into academic curricula, aiming to enrich the subject-matter learning experience while simultaneously reinforcing concepts and skills learned in music classes. The first part of the course will focus on building a foundational understanding of arts integration and several topics based on the needs and interests of those taking this class, i.e., music as a research methodology, musical playlists for showcasing knowledge, Hip Hop as knowledge creation, music for facilitating smooth classroom transitions, music for emotional regulation or stimulation, music as a tool for understanding cultural identity, examining music's role in historical contexts, appreciating music as a narrative medium, music's connection to activism and social movements, and political dimensions of music. In the second half of the course, emphasis will shift towards developing or refining unit plans that deliver and access academic content but prominently feature music as a pedagogical and assessment tool.
