Ocean and Human Health

Integrating disciplines to improve health

Ocean and coastal areas experience extensive environmental stresses, and those stresses affect the health of marine systems and the health of humans. Exposure to an array of organic pollutants through contaminated seafood and recreational bathing in affected coastal waters has generated tens of millions of marine-originated diseases over time.

As a student in this concentration, you will gain an interdisciplinary understanding of factors leading to the environmental degradation of ocean and coastal environments and the associated threat to the health of humans and marine life.
