Alumni will return to campus to celebrate Corsair Pride at Homecoming Weekend, September 28 through 30. The weekend’s events include athletics, an expanded children’s activity area, and the popular Alumni Tent for graduates of Bradford Durfee College of Technology, New Bedford Institute of Technology, SMTI, Swain, SMU and UMass Dartmouth and their families. “We’re really excited about Homecoming Weekend, especially the new features like the Turf Terrace,” said Nancy Vanasse, ’90, MBA ’05, director of Alumni Relations. “We also added more activities for children in the KidsZone to make the weekend a family event.”
The schedule kicks off on Thursday, September 28 with the Frederick Douglass Unity House Annual Alumni Dinner and Social and the College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Advisory Council Reception. In the evening, cheer on our student-athletes who will be competing in Saturday’s games at the Alumni Fire Pit and Pep Rally.
Friday night also features the 30th Annual Corsair Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, honoring notable Corsair alumni: Linee Mello-Frost ’11 (track and field, field hockey, Dan Holbrook ’08 (men’s basketball), Jeff Duchemin ’89 (football), Steve Pereira ’98 (baseball) and Paul Moore ’85 (ice hockey). Long-time track and field assistant coach Darren DeAndrade will be inducted posthumously, and the 1971 Southeastern Massachusetts University Men’s Cross Country team will be named 2017’s team of distinction. The ceremony will be held in Woodland Commons on the campus of UMass Dartmouth at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 29. Saturday’s events promise to be fun for everyone, with a BBQ and DJ in the Alumni Tent and front-row views of Cressy Field at the new Turf Terrace. The action on the field starts 1:00 p.m. with women’s soccer followed by football at 5:00 p.m. The women’s volleyball team will host a double-header beginning at 12:00 p.m., and women’s tennis will play at 1:00 p.m. At the KidsZone, future Corsairs will enjoy a petting zoo, face painting, games and more. Admission to the Alumni Tent includes a BBQ lunch.
On Saturday evening, the Golden Graduates of the class of 1967 will celebrate at a 50th reunion dinner in the MacLean Campus Center. The Class of 1957 will host a 60th reunion dinner in the University Club, chaired by Gus Silveira and Allan Wolstenhome.
