The Boivin Center for French Language and Culture announces its second program of the fall season a Sophie Michaux and Adam Jacob Simon Concert of French music featuring songs by Ravel, Fauré, Debussy, Poulene and Boulanger. The event is scheduled for Monday, December 9th 2013 at 7 PM in the Visual and Performing Arts Auditorium at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
Ms. Michaux was born in London and was raised in the French Alps. She is a graduate of the Haute École in Geneva, Switzerland with a Bachelor’s degree in early music vocal performance and holds a Master’s degree in vocal performance from the Longy School of Music in Cambridge. Her voice has been characterized as “velvety,” “luscious,” and “ever so slightly smoky.”
Ms. Michaux maintains an active performance schedule in Europe and in the United States performing at such venues as the Grand Théâtre de Genève, Festival du Perigord in France and the Goethe Institut in Boston.
Ms. Michaux collaborates with some of Boston’s most active opera companies. She is performing the role of Lucretia in the Opera Brettenica’s production of The Rape of Lucretia in October and in November she will be performing as the Third Lady in the Longwood Opera’s production of The Magic Flute.
Sophie Michaux was a finalist in February, 2012 in the FAVA’s Grand Concours de Chant in Austin, Texas. This year, she was a finalist in The American Prize National Competition in the opera division.
Adam Jacob Simon is a graduate of the Longy School of Music in Cambridge. He studied composition theory with Howard Frazin and theory and Solfège with Judith Ross. Mr. Simon also studied South African song and dance in Polokwane, South Africa. He is the recipient of the Margaret Rhodes Award for outstanding achievement in Solfège and theoretical studies. Mr. Simon teaches at the Suzuki School in Newton, Massachusetts.
