Corsair Career Series (CCS)

This series of workshops will develop a core set of professional skills to guide you to finding an internship or job. We will teach you the skills to impress on your resume, in the interview, and in the workplace!

Eligibility

The following students are eligible to participate:

  • Undergraduate students who have completed their first year and are in good academic standing
  • All graduate students

Corsair Career Certificate

A Corsair Career Certificate certifies that you have completed this professional workshop series. You have honed the professional skills that will impress. Use this certificate on your networks to stand out from others in your job and internship searches.

Requirements

  1. Attend and actively participate in four different CCS workshops.
  2. Attend an event hosted by the Career Center.

All requirements do not have to be completed in one semester; they can be completed in an academic year. However, we do understand that sometimes circumstances may prevent you from completing the requirements as planned, so we encourage you to do so at your earliest opportunity. 

Once you have completed these requirements, send an email to career@umassd.edu . The Career Center will arrange a time for you to pick up your Corsair Career Certificate and a UMassD Career Center branded padfolio.

Week 1 - What's Your Story? Resume and Cover Letter Development

Wednesday, March 15th | 12:00-1:30 p.m. | Blue & Gold Room, MacLean Campus Center

This workshop will walk you through the importance of sharing stories of experience, interests, and goals. The Career Center will dive into resume and cover letter development, with a strong focus on sharing your story through a cover letter. Student should come prepared with a draft resume and cover letter. A career advisor will provide feedback during session as well as individual critique following the session. Sign up here.

Week 2 - Effective Job and Internship Strategies

Wednesday, March 29th | 12:00-1:30 p.m. | Blue & Gold Room, MacLean Campus Center

This workshop will teach you tips and tricks on the most effective ways to conduct a search that yields results in finding opportunities. The Career Center will walk through several job and internship boards, keyword searches, reading a job description, and understanding the application process. You will have time to create or edit a Handshake profile while we discuss how Handshake uses algorithms. We will also discuss applicant tracking systems. Students will leave the session with a completed individualized internship/job action plan. Sign up here.

Week 3 - Networking Strategies: The Hidden Power of Networking

Wednesday, April 5th | 12:00-1:30 p.m. | Blue & Gold Room, MacLean Campus Center

This workshop will focus on developing an elevator pitch and common ways to land an informational interview. The Career Center will discuss the importance of networking and maintaining your professional network. We will share insights with you regarding the networking benefits of LinkedIn and Corsair Network. You will have time to start and/or edit a LinkedIn profile during this session. Sign up here.

Week 4 - Ace the Interview: Share Your Story

Wednesday, April 12th | 12:00-1:30 p.m. | Blue & Gold Room, MacLean Campus Center

This workshop will provide you with basic interviewing skills. You will listen to a short presentation on the types of interviews often used as well as common professional practices to use during interviewing. You will learn about the Big Interview application and use it to record your responses to practice interview questions. These will then be reviewed by a career advisor for feedback. Sign up here.

Week 5 - Elevator Pitch Showcase

Wednesday, April 19th | 12:00-1:30 p.m. | Blue & Gold Room, MacLean Campus Center

This final workshop will help you hone the skills learned in the previous workshops. You will develop and practice your individual elevator pitch that will delivered in a networking setting. Students will network with each other to market and promote their skills. Sign up here.
