RN-BS in Nursing Option

Blended Education Model

The College of Nursing offers registered nurses a blended baccalaureate program that is individually planned for each student.  Students are prepared for success in using online technology and other skills in the introductory nursing courses. Customized planning continues as students are supported and guided as they progress through the program by faculty and student mentors (open pdf file).

Highlights:

  • Individualized plan for program progression each semester
  • Blended format provides contact with classmates and faculty both online and in person
  • Nursing courses may be completed in 4 semesters
  • Classes meet once a week
  • RN-BS-MS accelerated option

Students may transfer non-nursing course credits from other institutions to meet most program requirements.  A total of 45 credits, including 33 nursing credits must be taken at UMD.  These courses may also be satisfied through the UMass Dartmouth Professional and Continuing Education division with online, blended or face-to-face courses. Nursing courses build on RN prior knowledge and skills and support professional development.  Clinical courses allow students to increase their knowledge in community nursing and chronic illness care through faculty directed independent practice. A final clinical course provides the opportunity to gain expertise or explore a new area of nursing of the student's choice with a professional nurse mentor.

Students may select to accelerate progression to graduate nursing programs while completing the BS. This option allows students to complete three MS nursing courses as part of their undergraduate study.
