Ciril Hitz

The Boivin Center for French Language and Culture at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth proudly presents its program for the spring semester, The Art of Bread Baking, featuring master baker and passionate teacher, Ciril Hitz.  The baking demonstration and food tasting will take place in The Café located in the UMass Dartmouth Marketplace (resident dining commons) on Friday, April 27th, 2018 from 4:30-6 PM.

Ciril Hitz, a native of Switzerland, received a BA in Fine Arts in industrial design at the Rhode Island School of Design   Upon graduation, he spent three years as a pastry/chocolate apprentice in Switzerland. Master Baker Hitz is a full-time instructor at the International Baking and Pastry Institute at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island.  He has been a guest instructor/expert at many national and international events and schools.

In 2002, Ciril Hitz represented the USA as a member of the Bread Bakers Guild team and competed at the Coupe du Monde de la Boulangerie in Paris, France where he received a silver medal. In 2004, he competed as part of a two-man team at the National Bread and Pastry Team Championship winning first prize. At the same event, he captured all three of the individual bread awards.

Hitz is actively involved in the Bread Bakers Guild of America. His work has been featured on The Today Show, The Food Network and Ciao Italia.

This afternoon program will feature a hands-on demonstration on how to shape breads and how to make French macaroons. Samples will be given out to the participants. The cost for the event is $20. A cash wine bar will be available. Reservations must be made in advance. Parking on campus is available in lot 4. Signs will direct you from the parking lot to the venue.
