Together Again at the Boivin Center
The Boivin Center for French Language and Culture at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth proudly announces a reunion concert featuring two outstanding performers of French Canadian music, Josée Vachon and Lucie Therrien to be held on December 13th 2015 in the Center for Visual and Performing Arts Auditorium at 2 PM. These two performers appeared together for the Center at UMass Dartmouth in 2005.
Josée Vachon was born in Quebec and raised in Maine. She often entertained at family gatherings. With the support of the Franco-American Center at the University of Maine, she began singing publicly, sharing her Franco-American upbringing for over 25 years through traditional and contemporary folksongs from Quebec and Acadia. She has been called a new Franco-American voice. In 1999, she received the National Culture through the Arts Award from the New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers and was inducted into the French Canadian Hall of Fame Class of 2007 for the American Genealogical Society. Ms. Vachon has 12 solo recordings to her credit and continues to perform and record music she feels best represents her love of Franco-American culture.
Lucie Therrien, a nationally and internationally acclaimed recording and film artist, was born in Newport, Vermont and educated in French schools in the Province of Quebec. She is a performer, certified teacher, composer, linguist, filmmaker, historian, author, poet, artist and speaker. She has toured over five continents with appearances in Foreign Consulates, government agencies, Parliament conventions, conferences, TV-5 International, PBS-TV and Radio, the “Good Day Show!” in Boston, CBC-TV/Radio-Canada, radios, universities, schools, festivals nationally and internationally. Ms. Therrien has received two New Hampshire Council of the Arts Fellowship Finalist Awards in 1991 and 1995 and four traditional Arts Awards between 1999 and 2005. She has participated in cultural exchanges in Quebec, France, Martinique, North Africa, Vietnam and Cuba. Ms. Therrien has published 14 recordings, four videos/DVD’s, two researches and a songbook. Her life and media activity is archived at the State Library in Concord, New Hampshire.
