NUR 677: Mental Hlth Nur Practicum II

Prerequisite: NUR 564, 565, & 554; Corequisite: NUR 676

Development of an understanding of the role of the advanced practice psychiatric nurse practitioner. This experiential course is the second psychiatric mental health practicum that builds on the foundation of NUR 565 to develop understanding of the role of the advanced practice psychiatric nurse practitioner, and includes completion of 167-180 direct care hours. Under the guidance of their preceptor students will implement systems of psychotherapy and therapeutic modalities used by the PMHNP across the lifespan. Students integrate psychotherapy interventions that consider culture, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Students collaborate with preceptors, faculty, and clients collaborate to build the therapeutic nurse-patient relationship, as the foundation of treatment.
