LEADS (Leadership for Educational Attainment Developed through Service) is a collaboration between the Leduc Center and the Fall River and New Bedford Public School systems.
The program is designed such that University students teach leadership skills through service-learning projects. LEADS is designed to empower elementary and middle school children to believe in themselves while they actively work to make our community a better place to live.
The goals of the program are:
- to increase school achievement and civic engagement
- to increase leadership knowledge, skills, and abilities
- to further develop student appreciation for and understanding of the importance of educational attainment
Elementary and middle school students develop a service-learning project that is important to them through research to them through research of their community needs. Once they have defined their project, the LEADS team members (college students) create fun activities that integrate leadership, communication, and teamwork skills. Children also learn about the importance of education and self-discovery through reflection.
This job is open to undergraduate and graduate students in good standing at the university.
LEADS mentors will responsible for preparing and implementing community service projects with middle or high school students, attending meetings, participating in training, and assisting fellow LEADS mentors on service-related projects.
LEADS mentors must have their own transportation.
This is a work-study position.
