Course Description: The First World War. This is an undergraduate course that will focus on the origins of the First World. The period that will be focused on is 1870-1918. The areas of study will be; causation of the Great War, the naval and land arms race, cultural Fin de Siecle, Jingoism of the 1890's and the resulting impact of European Imperialism. The underlying theme that will surface is the how the causes of the war had such tumultuous effects on Europe and the World, as the Twentieth Century endures its first global industrialized conflict, which shaped both the Twentieth and Twentieth First centuries!
