HST 373: Sex Gender & Hist of Medicine
Prerequisite: Open to students with at least 30 earned credits
Overview of the history of medicine in early modern Europe, focusing on the medical understanding of biological sex, sexuality, and the social construction of gender. Topics include reproductive disorders, contraception, midwifery, non-normative bodies, mental health. Students will learn to understand the past on its own terms and gain perspective on contemporary issues in gender, sexuality, and health.
