Research and Travel Funding

In addition to grants awarded by the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR), the Honors College offers supplemental funding to support both student research and conference travel. Honors students can apply for consideration via the following links:

APEX Support Grant

The APEX Grant aims augment OUR funding in support of APEX work. The program is designed to support research among Honors students working with mentors who do not have available funding to cover expenses necessary for the completion of the APEX. The program will offer awards of up to $500. Funding availability and the total amount of award requests will determine the number of APEX Grants awarded each year. Applications are rolling during the academic year and will be awarded based on merit until the year’s funding is fully distributed.

Student Travel Grant

The Travel Grant aims augment OUR travel funding. The program is designed to provide funding for travel to professional conferences at which the student is presenting research. Students in need of funds to travel to conduct APEX research (e.g., archives or a field site), should apply for the APEX Support Grant. The Travel Grant program will offer awards of up to $500. Funding availability and the total amount of award requests will determine the number of Travel Grants awarded each year. Applications are rolling during the academic year and will be awarded based on merit until the year’s funding is fully distributed.

Summer Research Fellowship (SuRF)

The SuRF Honors program is designed to provide students with experience as working scholars in their chosen field while supporting their skill development and degree progression. The program will offer awards of up to $2000 in stipend and up to $500 in materials or equipment. Availability of funding will determine the total number of SuRF Honors awards each year. The application deadline will coincide with the application date for OUR summer grants, and students are strongly encouraged to apply for both. SuRF awards will be based on merit until the year’s funding is fully distributed.
