Against the backdrop of a glowing September skyline, more than 110 UMass Dartmouth alumni, friends, faculty, staff, and UMass Trustees gathered high above Boston’s Seaport District for an evening that paired sweeping harbor views with lively conversation, new connections, and an inside look at the University’s growing momentum.
The annual reception hosted by Chancellor Mark A. Fuller transformed Rooftop at The Envoy into a gathering place for the UMass Dartmouth community, where guests mingled over cocktails and appetizers while taking in panoramic views of Rowes Wharf and Boston Harbor. University leadership, including the Provost and deans of all eight colleges and schools, joined alumni and friends throughout the evening, giving guests a rare opportunity to connect directly with campus leaders and hear what is happening across UMass Dartmouth.
Guests got a glimpse of the extraordinary student experience through a brief video before Chancellor Fuller shared his vision for building on UMass Dartmouth’s momentum, highlighting growing national recognition across the University and its continued commitment to research excellence, educational access, and preparing graduates to make a meaningful impact.
“This evening is an opportunity for us to gather and celebrate what we are most proud of and share with you the great things that we are doing at UMass Dartmouth,” said Chancellor Fuller.
UMass Dartmouth was ranked #2 in the UMass System by TIME, placing the University in the same tier as leading public research institutions including the University of Oregon, the University of New Hampshire, and the University of Kentucky. UMass Dartmouth also remains among the top 15 public research universities in the country with fewer than 10,000 students. It ranks #2 among public universities in New England for promoting social mobility, according to U.S. News & World Report.
From the Class of 1963 to some of the University’s newest graduates, alumni spanning generations and industries filled the rooftop patio as a spectacular fall sunset settled over Boston Harbor. Music carried across the rooftop while alumni and friends of the University from leading companies and organizations like Johnson & Johnson, Boston Dynamics, MEDITECH, Vazyme, KPMG, Mass General Brigham, MIT, and Harvard reconnected with former classmates and faculty and networked in conversation areas overlooking the city.
For many, the night offered exactly what makes gatherings like this special: a chance to reconnect with UMass Dartmouth while meeting the people shaping its future.
“This was a gathering of a community that genuinely cares about UMass Dartmouth and its people,” said Oleksandr Gandzyuk, MBA ’16, a member of the UMass Dartmouth Alumni Association. “I enjoyed reconnecting with faculty, meeting alumni from different generations, and speaking with students who are now building their own UMass Dartmouth stories. Events like this remind me why I continue to stay engaged with the university years after graduation.”
“The Boston setting was incredible, and it was especially meaningful to connect with fellow alumni, meet new people, and hear about the many ways our alumni community continues to grow and stay connected,” said Jennifer Sanchez-Olsen ’96. “It was a great reminder of what makes our alumni network so special.”
Student ambassadors added another dimension to the evening, giving guests a firsthand perspective on today’s UMass Dartmouth experience.
“It was a great opportunity to connect with alumni as well as introduce myself to staff outside of the classroom,” said Kissamy Georges ’27, a bioengineering major.
Organized by the Office of the Chancellor in partnership with Alumni Relations, the reception was more than a celebration of UMass Dartmouth’s progress. It was a reminder of the energy of the Corsair community and of what can happen when alumni, students, faculty, and University leaders come together.
