International Students

The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth appreciates and welcomes your interest. We take pride in the large number of students here from other countries whose contributions to this state university and to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts are recognized and appreciated. Applicants should address specific questions concerning graduate addmissions procedures and visas to the Graduate Studies Office or visit the International Students Homepage at http://www.umassd.edu/international_students/. Questions about curriculum or graduate assistantships should be taken up with the graduate program director for the program the applicant is interested in.

International graduate students wishing to transfer to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth from another institution in the United States should have the Transfer Status Verification Form filled out by their present International Student Advisor and returned to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Graduate Office by that school. Click here to download the form (pdf).

Applicants whose native language is not English must demonstrate their proficiency in English. Most do this by taking the TOEFL, which is administered worldwide. This requirement is waived only for those who had English as their primary language of secondary school or college instruction, who have successfully completed a year of advanced secondary school or college/university study in the United States or who can be present in person to meet with officials of the university at the time of application for admission.
