Departments

CVPA offers bachelor’s, master’s, and certificate programs across 3 departments.

Art + Design

The department offers undergraduate programs in art and design, and graduate and certificate programs in art, artisanry, and visual design. Each discipline provides the opportunity for students to develop critical, perceptual, and technical skills in contemporary art-making.

In Art + Design, students may concentrate in animation and game arts, ceramics, drawing, graphic design, illustration, integrated studio arts, jewelry/metals, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, or textiles.

Faculty

Art Education, Art History & Media Studies

The department encompasses undergraduate study in art education (BFA in Art Education), art history (BA and minor), and media studies (minor) as well as graduate study leading to the Master in Art Education (MAE).

Our art education programs provide theoretical, practical, and studio-based experiences leading to proficiency in the teaching of art. The art history program equips students with an understanding of a wide array of art objects—and the ability to articulate their insights into these objects.

Music

Musical expression is a key to understanding culture in the contemporary world and past civilizations. The department promotes an understanding of the theoretical, historical, and cultural contexts of music-making—encompassing music theory, music education, technology, history, musicianship, performance, and global studies. We offer a variety of performance opportunities for both music majors and all students.

The department’s music education program is approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and is ideal for students who wish to earn a license to teach music at the elementary and/or secondary levels.
