Departments

At UMass Dartmouth’s College of Visual & Performing Arts (CVPA), students explore art, design, media, music, and theater within a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment. Our four departments—Art, Design, Media Arts, and Music & Theater Arts—offer access to professional studios, performance spaces, and emerging technologies. Guided by practicing artists and scholars, students build technical skills, develop their creative voice, and prepare for careers across today’s evolving creative industries.

Art Department

The Art department emphasizes hands-on studio practice, critical thinking, and creative exploration across disciplines like painting, sculpture, ceramics, and photography. Students work closely with faculty to develop technical skills and a strong artistic voice, preparing for careers in fine arts, education, and related fields.
