Biography

Joyce Harrington has been teaching at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth since 2015. She also serves as Director of Music in the Abington Public Schools, where she currently directs the Abington High School Concert Band, The Abington Middle School Band and the Woodsdale Elementary School Band.

Ms. Harrington has studied Saxophone with Dr. Donald Panhorst, Mr. David Sublette, and Mr. Kenneth Radnofsky. An active musician in the Rhode Island, and South Shore Massachusetts areas, Ms. Harrington has been a Saxophonist with the American Band of Providence for 25 years, principal Alto Saxophonist for 13 years, and Bari Saxophonist with the Arthur Medeiros Swing Band for 12 years. Ms. Harrington performs as a freelance musician and as a reed player for many theatrical productions in the area.

Harrington is the founder, Conductor and Music Director of the Abington Community Band. The group brings together professional musicians, student musicians and local musicians for concert programs that are shared with different Abington choral groups. The Abington Community Band has premiered new works, had pieces written for them and has had the opportunity to work with composers on their pieces.

Ms. Harrington holds a Bachelor Degree in Saxophone Performance and Studio Teaching from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, and a Master of Music from New England Conservatory.
