Courses
Designed for those interested in teaching in the secondary school system. It gives a basic understanding of all brass instruments and the techniques involved in playing them.
Weekly private lessons. Piano pedagogy will be included at each level.
Biography
William Kingsland has been on the Music Department faculty at UMass Dartmouth since 1986, teaching brass methods as well as applied trombone, euphonium and tuba. His extensive experience in brass performance includes professional performances throughout the New England region and beyond on trumpet, trombone, euphonium and tuba, in both the classical and jazz realms.
As a trombonist, Mr. Kingsland has performed with the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra, Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra, New Bedford Symphony Orchestra, Cape Ann Symphony and the Chatham Chorale. He is a founding member of the Concordia Brass Quintet, and is currently active with over forty years of service.
On the jazz/contemporary front, Mr. Kingsland performs regularly on trumpet with the Southcoast Jazz Orchestra and the Perry Rossi Orchestra. He has also performed with the Duke Belaire Big Band and has worked regularly for John Salerno Music Productions. He can be heard during the summer performing on trumpet/trombone at the Zeiterion Theatre in New Bedford, and working extensively as a freelance musician in Boston, Newport, Providence, and Cape Cod and the Islands.
Mr. Kingsland is also Director of Music for the Dartmouth (MA) Public Schools and director of the Dartmouth High School Band.
