Why choose a career in University Policing?
University policing offers a unique opportunity to protect and serve in a setting that is traditionally safer and more enjoyable than policing in a city or town. At UMass Dartmouth, our officers build strong relationships with the community while ensuring a safe and welcoming environment. There is significantly less stress and more opportunities to be a difference maker in this business versus the cities/towns. It’s a fun and rewarding career that doesn’t consume your life but rather enhances it! For quality of life, longevity, and peace, there is no better career in the world, and you can make a great living and have outstanding benefits, too! Remember, it’s a career choice, and it’s not the same as the cities/towns - it’s better. Let us show you how:
- Balanced work/life environment- a more predictable schedule and opportunities for professional development and growth. The summer months and winter break (4 months) offer a calm and welcoming break for our officers, who can turn their focus to training or furthering education through a free tuition program for staff and family members.
- Stronger community bonds- Build trust and rapport utilizing a student-centered approach with a population focused on learning
- Officers can choose to adjudicate students through the Office of Community Standards versus court if they desire, therefore offering a powerful option to the traditional criminal process.
- It’s a rewarding career that doesn’t consume your life, unlike the cities/towns where things can get old quickly.
