The UMASSD Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture is pleased to announce that it will be hosting President José Manuel Bolieiro at the New Bedford Whaling Museum this Monday, 29 August 2022 at 3 pm. President Bolieiro will be joined by Professor Francisco Fagundes. The event will celebrate the creation of the Bellis Azorica book series. This series is part of Tagus Press, the publishing arm of the Center for Portuguese Studies and culture at UMassD. Bellis Azorica is supported through a generous grant from the Azorean government. It publishes classic works by Azorean authors in translation.

Dr. Paula Celeste Gomes Noversa, Director of the CPSC stated, “The Bellis Azorica book series is an important part of Tagus Press. All too often Portuguese authors in general, and Azorean authors in particular, go unrecognized for their talents and contributions. The significance of the Bellis Azorica book series is that it brings that literature to a broader audience, an English-language readership.”

Books from the Bellis Azorica book series will be available for purchase at the New Bedford Whaling Museum bookstore.

This event is free and open to the public.
