Contraponto program series, originally broadcast on 18 May 2025
In 2024, Tagus Press published the double issue 40/41 (Fall 2023/Spring 2024) of the journal Portuguese Literary and Cultural Studies, edited by Doris Wieser (Universidade de Coimbra) and entitled Viver e escrever em trânsito entre Angola e Portugal: Entrevistas e ensaios.
The volume focuses on the personal experience and literary production of writers whose lives have moved in different ways and at different times between Angola and Portugal. Their collective identity can hardly be encompassed by a single term, such as migrants, refugees, Africans of the diaspora, Afrodescendants, Afropeans or Afropolitans. In this project, they are referred to as “people in transit” with the intention of addressing their diverse migratory experiences between Angola and Portugal and the repercussions of these experiences in their literary works. The issue includes the transcription of six interviews – with Ana Paula Tavares, Aida Gomes, Kalaf Epalanga, Raquel Lima, Yara Monteiro, and Zetho Cunha Gonçalves – originally recorded for the documentary Living and Writing in Transit: Between Angola and Portugal (2021). The interviews are accompanied by critical essays on the interviewees’ writings as well as on another writer in transit between Angola and Portugal, Djaimilia Pereira de Almeida.
