An exhibition of Providence women artists who, challenging art education and exhibition practices, established themselves as professional artists. While many of their stories have been lost (until now), these women transformed modern American visual culture and gender politics during the late nineteenth century.

Bill Plympton is an animator, graphic designer, cartoonist, and filmmaker considered the King of Indie Animation, and the first person to hand-draw an entire animated feature film. He has created over 40 animated short films and seven animated features. Plympton received Oscar nominations for the animated shorts, “Your Face” and “Guard Dog.” In 1991, his film “Push Comes to Shove” won the Cannes Palme d’Or, and in 2001, another short film, “Eat,” won the Canal+ Award for short films at Cannes Critics’ Week. Plympton also collaborated with Madonna, Kanye West, and “Weird Al” Yankovic on a number of music videos and book projects. Bill Plympton will speak about his work and provide insight into the wild world of cartooning and independent animation. While event is free and open to the public, reservations for the talk are required.
