Pre-Science Program

The Pre-Science Program is designed for students who were not directly admitted into a science major, but whose goal is to pursue a career in the sciences.

The program lets you take the courses you need in order to make a smooth transition into any of UMassD's biology or chemistry majors. You will begin as an Arts & Sciences undeclared major, and you will be advised by an Advising, Support and Planning (ASAP) advisor regarding the courses you should take.

In your first year, you will focus on essential courses that prepare you for a rigorous science curriculum. As you make progress toward your degree, please review the eligibility and curriculum requirements that will allow you to declare one of the science majors.

Pre-science students may be able to complete the bachelor's degree in four years, depending on mathematics placement. For students starting below the calculus level, more than eight semesters may be required to complete the degree.
