Program Structure

The typical daily schedule will be as follows:

9:00 – 11:30 am Seminar
11:45 am –1:00 pm Lunch together as a group
1:30 – 2:45 pm Small group meetings & tutoring
3:00 – 4:30 pm Seminar or guest speakers’ presentations
6:00 – 8:00 pm Dinner with guest speakers

Readings on the paradoxes will be distributed to participants prior to the start of the Summer Program.

Each morning of the week, we will study and prepare for the guest speakers’ presentations with the reading materials and be ready to engage in lively discussion and debate with our speakers.

Guest speakers will also recommend material on Diversity that has had personal impact on them. Time will be allotted each day to engage with this material.

In the morning, the participants will meet with the director, graduate assistants, and guest faculty for a two-hour seminar that covers texts sent to participants in advance of the program.

Participants will be asked to arrive each day with either a set of written questions on assigned readings or a 1-2 page rough-draft reflection on an assigned topic. These
assignments will become part of either seminar discussions or small group work in the early afternoon.

Participants will interact with visiting speakers at planned lunches and dinners.

The afternoon sessions will alternate between continued seminar discussions, small group discussions, presentations by visiting speakers, and a workshop on the process of applying to graduate school.

Most evenings will include an official reception and/or dinner, informal discussions at local coffee houses and other unofficial evening activities.
