For matriculated students. Read descriptions for eligibility requirements and application process. If a separate application is required, it will be listed with the scholarship.

For those scholarships that require a Merit-based General Scholarships & Eligibility Application, only one completed application is necessary to be considered for multiple scholarships.

Bristol County South Medical Auxiliary Scholarship

For a permanent resident of Bristol County who is interested in developing a career in nursing and is entering their senior year of Nursing. Award decisions will be made on financial need and academic merit.

Rose Castonguay Scholarship

Student who has completed the third year of the four-year program leading to a BS in Nursing.

Jacqueline Bazinet Cobert Memorial Scholarship Fund

To assist full-time, matriculated graduate or undergraduate students.

Phyllis Porth Darrell Scholarship

Student who has completed their third year of the four-year program leading to a BS in Nursing in high academic standing and exhibits a dedication to the nursing profession.

Robert J. Fisher Scholarship

For a UMD junior or senior nursing student who demonstrates exceptional leadership ability and high academic and professional accomplishment.

Jack M. Gould Scholarship

Must be a degree candidate at UMD with a field of study related to human services and a minor in gerontology. The following will be considered in the selection: current employment in the field of gerontology; current activity and future goals for contribution to bettering the lives of the elderly; and demonstrated financial need.

Letter of application to Dr. Andrew Revell of the Gerontology Center, by March 1.

Letter should include:

  1. Two UMD faculty references;
  2. Current transcript;
  3. Documentation of acceptance into the minor or certificate in gerontology
  4. Personal statement of present and proposed involvement in the field of gerontology.
Eleanora S. Fontaine Scholarship

To support a sophomore student enrolled in the College of Nursing with demonstrated financial need and a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Preference is for a female student from the greater New Bedford area.

Recipients may apply for successive Fontaine scholarships with the proviso that they are remaining in the College of Nursing and that they are maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Marie M. Howard Scholarship

For a UMD junior with high academic and professional accomplishment, commitment to professional nursing as well as demonstrated financial need.

Lepreau and Welch Scholarship

To support full-time undergraduate or graduate students from Fall River or Westport who are enrolled in the College of Nursing. Preference will be given to those with demonstrated financial need.

R. Grace and Henry C. Lincoln, M.D. Scholarship

Student enrolled in the College of Nursing who demonstrates academic merit and financial need.

Arlene M. Oliveira Scholarship

For a UMD junior, senior, or graduate nursing student who works at St. Anne's Hospital in Fall River.

Julia R. Plotnik and Jeanne M. Leffers Travel Fund

This travel fund is to support student(s) in good academic standing who provide(s) evidence of their selection to participate in international learning/service experience. Preference is for an undergraduate student who is participating in an international learning experience that includes both service and nursing experiences, with a priority for service learning in an under-developed country.

St. Luke’s Nursing Alumni Scholarship

To assist full-time, matriculated graduate or undergraduate students in the College of Nursing based on demonstrated financial need.

A completed 2014-2015 FAFSA by March 1 will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Truesdale Hospital Nurses Alumnae Association Scholarship Fund

Awarded to a nursing student in the Graduate program who demonstrates financial need and academic merit.

Dennis Tucker Memorial Endowment

To assist undergraduate students pursuing a degree in a medically related field (i.e. nursing, medical lab. sciences, etc.) who have demonstrated financial need.

A completed 2014-2015 FAFSA by March 1 will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Sanford Udis Endowment

For an undergraduate or graduate student majoring in Nursing. Preference will be given to a resident of Fall River, Somerset, Swansea or Westport with demonstrated financial need.

A completed 2014-2015 FAFSA by March 1 will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Sister Madelaine Vaillot Scholarship

Scholarship is to support a nursing student in the RN-BS program or the RN Refresher course. Preference is for a single parent with demonstrated financial need who is returning to school after some time off to improve his/her employment opportunities.

A completed 2014-2015 FAFSA by March 1 will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Jeanne Castonguay Violette Memorial Scholarship

For a student who has completed their third year of the four-year program and is a senior leading to the Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

Roger & Jeanne Violette Fund

To support undergraduate students who are studying health related fields such as nursing and med lab sciences. Financial need will be the basis for scholarship awards.

A completed 2014-2015 FAFSA by March 1 will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Hank Walker Scholarship

Massachusetts resident and citizen or permanent resident of the United States with demonstrated financial need enrolled full-time in an engineering, med lab sciences or nursing degree program.

Preference will be given to veterans of the US Armed Forces and returning students after an absence of at least five years and has completed at least 24-credit hours of satisfactory work.

Scholarship is renewable for a limit of five academic years of receipt as long as recipient continues to meet eligibility requirements and has a GPA of at least 3.0. If a student falls below 3.0 and above 2.5 for two consecutive semesters, student is no longer eligible for the scholarship.

A completed 2014-2015 FAFSA by March 1 will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.
