For those scholarships that require a General Merit-based Scholarship Application , only one completed application is necessary to be considered for multiple scholarships.

Ethel & Edward Adaskin Memorial Fund

Preference to entering undergraduate students residing in Dartmouth, Fall River, Freetown, Westport, Somerset, or Swansea who demonstrate financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.

A 2019-20 FAFSA completed by March 1, 2019, will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Shaukat Ali Memorial  Humanitarian Scholarship

To support a student in the Honors Program with financial need who shows academic promise and who lives by humanitarian ideals. Preference will be given to students who are maintaining a GPA between 3.0-3.5. Community service and volunteerism will also be considered.

Alice S. Ayling Scholarship Fund

For entering freshmen who are Massachusetts residents with demonstrated financial need will be considered. This scholarship is open to any undergraduate major.

This scholarship may be renewable if student continues to demonstrate financial need and keeps with the mission of the fund.

The Executive Director of the Ayling Scholarship Foundation will be on campus one day during the fall semester to meet with each of the recipients to discuss their academic activities and to gain a sense of the consequences this scholarship may have had. Attendance is encouraged for this meeting.

Application for admission and subsequent acceptance to UMD will automatically allow students to be considered.

Solveig E.J. Balestracci

For new freshmen undergraduate students. Must be a resident of Acushnet, Dartmouth, Fairhaven, Freetown, Lakeville, Marion, Mattapoisett, New Bedford, Rochester, or Westport.

A 2019-20 FAFSA completed by March 1, 2019, will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Theodore S. Bochenek Memorial Scholarship

For undergraduate or graduate student with demonstrated financial need.

A 2019-20 FAFSA completed by March 1, 2019, will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Borden & Remington Scholarship Fund

For the offspring of Borden & Remington employees who attend UMass Dartmouth. Said employee must be on the payroll of Borden & Remington Corp at the time of the application and must have been successfully employed with the company for at least two years.

James M. Buckley, Sr. Scholarship

To support a graduate of New Bedford High School who also demonstrates financial need.

A 2019-20 FAFSA completed by March 1, 2019, will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Carrier-Pisarczyk Scholarship Fund

To support one or more full-time, matriculated graduate or undergraduate student(s). Decisions will be based on academic merit and demonstrated financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.

A 2019-20 FAFSA completed by March 1, 2019, will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Daniel and Helen Carrier Scholarship Fund

For entering freshmen students who graduated from Dartmouth (MA) High School and who were in the top 1/3, but not the top 10, of their graduating class.

A. J. Carvalho Memorial Scholarship

To support incoming freshman female students of Portuguese descent who graduated from New Bedford High School with a GPA of at least 3.0, or New Bedford High School graduates who are matriculated, full-time, students at UMD with a GPA of at least 3.0. Applicants must have demonstrated financial need.  This scholarship may be renewed annually until recipient completes her undergraduate degree from UMass Dartmouth, provided the GPA continues to be met.

Ruth and Dean Cassell Scholarship

To support a full-time student who has demonstrated high academic achievement, leadership qualities, and an aptitude for athletics, who demonstrates substantial financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Department.

  • Must be in the Honors Program
  • Must have played a varsity sport in high school
  • Preference given to students demonstrating leadership roles (student government, RA, Orientation leader, etc)

This scholarship is renewable providing the 3.2 cumulative GPA is upheld and a new application is provided.

Chancellor's Centennial Graduate Scholarship

For matriculated students in a master's degree program who demonstrate excellent academic standing in their chosen field of study. Applicants must have completed at least one semester of full-time graduate-level study at UMass Dartmouth and must be full time (9+ credits/semester). Demonstrated financial need may also be considered.

Must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student with superior standing. Preference given to residents of the greater Fall River area.

Dartmouth Industrial Development Foundation Scholarship

To support full-time, matriculated undergraduate or graduate students with demonstrated financial need. Must be a resident of Dartmouth, MA.

A 2019-20 FAFSA completed by March 1, 2019, will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Mary M.C.H. Eccles Scholarship

To support full-time, matriculated students at UMass Dartmouth. Scholarships will be based on merit and financial need with an emphasis on merit. Students must reside in the greater New Bedford area.

To provide support to full-time, underrepresented students.  Students need to be affiliated with at least one of the following areas:

Fall River Endowment Scholarship

For an undergraduate student with demonstrated financial need. Must be a resident of Fall River.

William Firth Scholarship

For an undergraduate or graduate student with demonstrated financial need.

A 2019-20 FAFSA completed by March 1, 2019, will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Louise A. Habicht University Honors Scholarship

To support full-time, matriculated undergraduate students in the University Honors Program, specifically senior students working on their honors theses at UMass Dartmouth.

The recipient will be determined by the Honors Program Director. There is no application process.

Edward M. Hartley Scholarship

For undergraduate or graduate student with demonstrated financial need.

A 2019-20 FAFSA completed by March 1, 2019, will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Ida and Morris Horvitz, Jr. Endowment

For an undergraduate or graduate student with demonstrated financial need.

Madeleine C and Armand E '82 Houde Memorial Scholarship

To support a full time Sophomore with financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.  Must be a graduate of either New Bedford High School, Durfee High School, Greater New Bedford Vocational Technical High School or Diman REgional Vocational Technical High School.  Preference will be given to students who are the first in their family to attend college and have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.  This scholarship is renewable if long as all eligibility requirements are continued to be met.

To support a full time student with demonstrated financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.  This scholarship is renewable providing demonstrated financial need is continued.

Leonard and Hilda Kaplan Scholarship

To support students who have demonstrated an investment in helping children of the SouthCoast, MA area. Preference to students who are residents of New Bedford, MA.

Kingston-Mann Award for Excellence in Diversity & Inclusion Scholarship

This awards competition for undergraduate students recognizes and honors original student research on issues of diversity and inclusion. The award is named for Esther Kingston-Mann, in honor of her local, regional, national, and internationally recognized service to student learning.

Harold and Virginia Lash Endowment Scholarship

 To support full-time, matriculated graduate and undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Department and academic merit.  A student with less need but greater potential for excellence shall prevail over a student with greater need but less potential.  Students may apply for successive Lash scholarhsips, but an award does not imply continuation beyond a single year.

 A 2019-20 FAFSA completed by March 1, 2019, will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Gustave and Elsa LaStaiti Scholarship

  • Must be full-time (12+ credits/semester)
  • Must have completed at least 24 credits
  • Must have GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must have demonstrated active involvement in public service at the University and/or hometown
  • Must be a resident of Bristol, Plymouth, Duke, or Barnstable Counties in MA
  • Preference given to students with demonstrated financial need

To support an undergraduate student who is the first in his or her family to attend college. This scholarship will be based on financial need and merit, with financial need taking precedence.

William Q. MacLean Scholarship

To assist full-time matriculated undergraduate students, including entering Freshmen and transfer students, from Acushnet, Dartmouth, Fairhaven, Freetown, Marion, Mattapoisett, New Bedford or Rochester, who have demonstrated financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office and outstanding leadership qualities both on and off campus. 

This scholarship is renewable until the completion of a bachelor's degree provided the recipient maitain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and maintain all eligibility requirements.  Recipients must re-apply.

George M. Mankut Scholarship

For a full-time undergraduate student who is a resident of Fall River.

A 2019-20 FAFSA completed by March 1, 2019, will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Emery Manning, Jr. Scholarship

For an undergraduate or graduate student with demonstrated financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.

Paul and Janice Marshall Scholarship

For two undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office. One student from New Bedford, MA and one student from Randolph, MA will be selected. The student from New Bedford must be pursuing a degree in math, science, engineering, nursing, or medical laboratory science. The Randolph student must be pursuing a degree from the College of Arts and Sciences.

A 2019-20 FAFSA by March 1, 2019, will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Agnes Tavares Mendes
Memorial Scholarship Fund

For entering freshmen and full-time matriculated undergraduate students who are residents of Rochester, Marion, Wareham, or Mattapoisett. Must have GPA of 2.0 and must demonstrate financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.

A 2019-20 FAFSA completed by March 1, 2019, will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Trudi Miller Memorial Scholarship

For a full-time matriculated first-generation student with demonstrated financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.  Preference given to a resident of Acushnet, Dartmouth, Fairhaven, New Bedford or Fall River, and a graduate of a career and technical High School.

A 2019-20 FAFSA completed by March 1, 2019, will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Lynn Bross Trayser Mitchell Memorial Scholarship

For graduate or undergraduate students serving environmental research or educational internships at the Lloyd Center for Environmetal Studies.

Donald H. Ramsbottom Fundraising Endowment

To award a full-time student who has excelled in academic achievement, is involved in extra-curricular activities both on and off-campus, and who has raised a substantial amount of funds for the Annual Fund at UMass Dartmouth.

Decisions will be determined by the Director of Annual Giving, Director of Alumni Affairs, and the Executive Director of the UMass Dartmouth Foundation or their designees.

Estelle Woolfe Robinson and Ruth Soloman Smith Memorial Scholarship

To support a female non-traditional undergraduate student with demonstrated financial need who would be at risk for not attaining a college education without scholarship assistance.

Preference will be given to women who are returning to school after time off for a variety of reasons, or to women who live on Cape Cod, particularly the outer portions.

To support a student with demonstrated financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.

Southcoast Business Alliance Scholarship

To support a student with demonstrated financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office. Student shall be a graduate of Fall River or New Bedford area high schools and enrolled at UMass Dartmouth as a student in good standing in their sophomore, junior, or senior year.

A 2019-20 FAFSA completed by March 1, 2019, will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Frank Stevens Scholarship

Must be a full-time undergraduate student with superior undergraduate standing. Preference given to a Swansea resident. Renewable if full-time status and high GPA are maintained.

Charles Irwin Travelli Scholarship Fund

For entering freshmen who are Massachusetts residents with a demonstrated financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office will be considered. This scholarship is open to any undergraduate major.

UMass in Lisbon Study Abroad Program: Saab Family Foundation Scholarship and TAP Air Portugal Travel Scholarship Grant

For students in the University of Massachusetts system (enrolled at the Dartmouth, Amherst, Boston, Lowell, or Worcester campuses) who intend to study abroad in Lisbon, Portugal. These two special scholarships are provided through the generosity of the Program sponsors.

UMD Retirement Association Scholarship

To support a master’s level graduate student in good academic standing and who has demonstrated financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.

For students with specific literary or performing arts talent. Must demonstrate consistent outstanding achievement in the selected areas as indicated on her/his academic record and must be prepared to present a performance or reading of an original essay in a public forum at UMD.

Bobby and Rillis Watkins Scholarship

For an entering Freshman who is a graduate of New Bedford High School with demonstrated outstanding performance in character, leadership, scholarship, and service in the classroom, on the athletic fields, and in the community.  Preference will be given to students who played football while attending New Bedford High School.  Recipients may apply for renewal, but an award does not imply continuation beyond a single year.

Cheryl Whitehead Memorial Scholarship

To support a deserving, non-traditional student who plans to start or continue his/her education in an undergraduate or degree program at UMass Dartmouth. Preference is for female students with financial need.

Through this scholarship it is hoped that Cheryl Whitehead's love of education will resonate to other creative intelletuals with equivalent altruistic desires to "make a difference in our world".  Scholarship recipients will be encouraged to expand their horizons through travel and continuing education.
