Minor in Psychology
What is the minor about?
The Psychology minor provides students with a strong foundational understanding of the scientific study of human thoughts and behaviors.
Who is eligible?
The minor in Psychology may be elected by students majoring in any other field. Students must have a minimum of 24 credits, a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0, a 2.5 grade point average in their major, and a grade of C+ or higher in PSY 101. A minor must be completed at the time of the degree and will be so noted on the student’s transcript. A student cannot be readmitted to the University to complete only a minor.
What are the requirements?
The Psychology (PSY) minor consists of 18 total credits in PSY. Nine credits are earned in Foundation Courses, and 9 credits are earned in Upper-Level Electives. Students must earn a C- or higher in all courses required for the PSY minor.
*Note: PSY 101 is a prerequisite for the foundational courses. Students who want to minor in Psychology are encouraged to build these prerequisites into their distribution requirements.
Foundation Courses - 9 credits (3 courses)
- PSY 202 (Abnormal Psychology)
- PSY 220 (Lifespan Development) or PSY 201 (Child Psychology) or PSY 215 (Adolescent Psychology) or NUR 211 (Concepts of Lifespan and Development)
- PSY 204 (Fundamentals of Social Psychology) or PSY 250 (Biological Bases of Behavior)
Upper-Level Courses - 9 credits (3 courses)

Note. For any upper-level Psychology elective courses that have the prerequisite of PSY 205 (Statistics) and/or PSY 39X (Research Methods in Psychology) as listed below, permission from the instructor is required. (Permission will be granted if the student comes from a major with equivalent courses in statistics and/or Research Methods).
