Peer Mentoring

Charlton College of Business peer mentors play a pivotal role in empowering first-year students to enhance their learning, social, and professional goals while navigating the intricacies of university life. Offering one-on-one and small-group support, peer mentors aid mentees as they embark on a transformational period of their lives and adjust to the distinct teaching style of higher education.

Program goals

  1. Familiarize mentees with the array of resources available to them on campus, such as tutoring services, the Career Center, Counseling Center, Financial Aid Services, Housing and Residential Education, and more.
  2. Encourage attendance of events, clubs, activities, and more student life initiatives.
  3. Develop mentees' self-confidence, resilience, and self-efficacy needed to navigate the university journey.
  4. Help mentees develop essential skills for learning and growth like time management, note-taking, and problem-solving by encouraging effective approaches.
  5. Serve as positive role models, fostering a constructive and supportive environment.

Peer mentors must be full-time juniors or seniors in good academic standing with a cumulative 3.0 GPA. Chosen for their responsibility, dependability, and honesty, they are trusted to maintain confidentiality with mentees and provide friendly, patient, and sensitive insight to students with different needs, interests, and abilities.

Vanessa Dos Anjos

I recently graduated from UMass Dartmouth with a bachelor’s degree in General Business Administration and a minor in Management, and I am now an MBA student. I have been serving as a CCB Ambassador and Peer Mentor going on four years, and I am also a Graduate Assistant at the Frederick Douglass Unity House. Outside of school, I am an entrepreneur and have been building my own clothing brand for several years. When I am not working or studying, I enjoy spending time with family and friends and cooking.

Mardochee goes by Chée (Shay)! She's a Senior General Management student and enrolled in the 4+1 MBA program as well. She's very involved and campus and can’t wait to meet you guys!

Manuel Frederico Jr.

I’m a senior majoring in Management Information Systems (MIS), and I’m involved in several areas across campus. Along with being a Peer Mentor, I serve as a Resident Assistant, CCB Student Ambassador, and Orientation Coordinator, and I’m involved with organizations including DECA, the Cape Verdean Student Association, and the Business Honor Societies (BAP & BGS). I’ve had the opportunity to experience a lot at UMassD, and I’m excited to use those experiences to help you navigate your own first year.

Keon Kerr

Keon is a junior in Finance, and he is eager to apply his knowledge to giving black towards his community. Keon is looking to become more involved on campus. Jackie Sassin

Jackie Sassin is a senior Marketing major in the Honors College at UMass Dartmouth and a 4+1 MBA student. She works for University Marketing and serves as a Peer Mentor and Student Ambassador for the Charlton College of Business. She is also the Public Relations Director for Charlton Women in Business and a member of DECA and Corsair Cheer. Jackie studied abroad in France, where she studied Luxury Branding. A fun fact about Jackie is that she won first place in Business-to-Business Marketing at the DECA International Career Development Conference in April 2026!

Nicolas 2026

Nicolas TavarezEstevez

Nicolas is majoring in Accounting with a minor in Finance. Nicolas enjoys helping fellow students on campus. Outside of mentoring, Nicolas enjoys weightlifting and looks forward to supporting students throughout their college journey. He belongs to Beta Alpha Psi, ALPFA, DECA, and serves as an SGA Senator for the Charlton College of Business.

MariaOlivia Tejada

MariaOlivia Tejada is majoring in Accounting and was born in Nantucket, but grew up in a Brazilian house hold. She's  a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, while also serving as President of the Lusophone Student Union and Treasurer of the Founders Club. Outside of academics, she practices Muay Thai and has a small side hustle trading and investing across various markets, including decentralized assets, equities, and options. She's currently working toward a career in Tax, with the long-term goal of eventually pivoting into Wealth Management.
