International Exchange Program

International Exchange Engineering Programs

The College of Engineering has several opportunities for students to internationalize their program of study. We have exchange agreements with the State of Hessen in Germany, the University of Messina, Messina (Sicily) Italy, and a developing program with Universidad Peruana De Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC) Lima, Peru.

The International Summer University (ISU) program with Hessen allows UMass Dartmouth students to attend a four-week summer program with one of five participating Universities in the State of Hessen, Germany. While students may apply for programs at Kassel, Frankfurt, Fulda, Giessen or Marburg, most engineering students select the University of Kassel because it is the state's premier engineering school. The summer program consists of a German language and culture module and an engineering module of general interest. English is the language of instruction and a limited number of tuition scholarships are available to UMass Dartmouth students. Evening and weekend cultural events and excursions are also a part of the program. While in Kassel, students reside with a host family. The International Winter University (IWU) is similar to the ISU except it is scheduled for three weeks during our winter break and is only available at Kassel.

The Messina program is a two-week cultural excursion to Sicily and is open to all UMass Dartmouth students.

We currently have a Memorandum of Understanding with UPC, Lima, Peru and are working towards a winter exchange program similar to the IWU with Kassel. However, our winter is their summer and that has a certain appeal to New Englanders.
