Welcome to the
Leduc Center for Civic Engagement!
Building the Bridge between Learning and Community
Defining Civic Engagement
Civic engagement has been defined as actions constructed to identify and address issues of public concern. The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, through the activities organized by the Leduc Center for Civic Engagement, aspires to meet the challenge of providing active student learning opportunities while meeting a community need. Service learning is a methodology that melds community service with classroom learning goals. Service learning augments the acquisition of skills and knowledge through experiential applications that meet the needs of a community and simultaneously fosters civic responsibility.
