I grew up in Freetwon, Massachusetts, and graduated from Apponequet High School, where I sang in the Chorus, played French Horn in the Concert Band, Baritone in the Marching Band, and trumpet in the Jazz Band. After graduating high school, I enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where I first worked for NORAD at the Missile Warning Radar site in Florida, and then for NATO at the Allied Tactical Operations Center in Germany. I've completed coursework both at Troy State University and UMass Dartmouth, concentrating in English Writing studies.
Prior to coming to UMass Darmtouth in 2002, I worked for many years in the Music Merchandising industry, and then in the Tradeshow Industry. I joined the Mathematics Department in March 2007.
I was a local musician for several years in the '90's to mid 2000's singing and playing guitar and mandolin in the acoustic duos "Carousel" and "Indiglow." I enjoy writing songs and poetry, and am currently slowly tapping away at a novel. My other interests include gardening, traveling, and cooking.
I am active in my church, serving as Chairperson of the Missions Committee, and Vice-Chair of the Finance Committee. I am involved with Friends of Old Rochester Music (F.O.R.M.), a parent-run booster club for the music programs at ORR Junior High and Senior High, and have been serving as President since 2012, after serving as Vice President from 2011-2012.
I have 2 children: a son currently attending Massachusetts Maritime Academy, and a daughter who plans to attend college as a Creative Writing Major beginning Fall 2016.
