UMass Law Professor Lisa Lucile Owens participated as a panelist in a symposium hosted by the Journal of Legal Education in New York City that convened leading scholars for sustained and thoughtful reflection on the past, present, and future of legal education. The event created space for meaningful dialogue about how foundational ideas in the field of legal education continue to shape contemporary teaching, scholarship, and institutional priorities. Bringing together voices from across the legal academy, the symposium highlighted both the enduring influence of pioneering work and the need for continued innovation and critical engagement.

The Editors of the Journal of Legal Education (JLE) invited Professor Owens to take part in the symposium in connection with an article to be featured in their forthcoming symposium issue, Impact, Excellence, Resilience: Contemporary Views on Pioneering Legal Education Scholarship. Published by the Association of American Law Schools, the Journal of Legal Education serves as the journal of record for the American legal academy and plays a central role in shaping national conversations about law and legal education. Through its wide circulation and scholarly reach, the Journal provides a vital forum for addressing timely issues and advancing thoughtful analysis across a broad range of interests and expertise.

The symposium format paired contemporary authors with the scholars whose original works they are engaging in their articles. These discussions were designed to foster deeper intellectual connection and to illuminate how earlier scholarship continues to inform current debates and reforms. With a readership of more than 10,000 law teachers, the Journal of Legal Education offers a powerful platform for sharing emerging ideas and contributing to the ongoing development of the legal academy.
